Yes, it’s is here.  The time of the year when when we liberally feed our gluttony tendencies.  Are you prepared for the battle?  Is your armor in place?  How will you conquer the temptations of over-eating, over-indulging, and total submission to treating yourself

?

If you have your plan of  action already laid out.  You can easily answer yes to the above question.  If not,  you are probably in trouble.  Think back to last year about this time.  Between November 1 and January 10 did you notice your clothing was fitting a little more snugly?  Did you set losing weight as one of your New Year’s resolutions?  If you are like most of us your answer is yes.  If this year has flown by as quickly for you as it has for me, you have probably not given much thought to preparation for holiday socializing.  Which includes not only the fun of gathering with friends and relatives, but also the challenges of meals and beverages filled with calories and carbs that are best when indulged in small amounts.

For those of us in the United States,  Thanksgiving heralds the beginning of the holiday season.  Many employers hold special activities to reward and treat their employees. (Rich food, sweets and high calorie beverages are usually part of these events.)  Families also usually have special gatherings where once again the food is the centerpiece of the activity.

I write this post to alert you that it is time to develop and implement your plan so that when January 1 arrives you will not be facing a rigid weight loss routine.  Maintaining and controlling weight is most effective when it is part of a lifestyle.  Therefore, I encourage you to enjoy your holidays but, control your food intake and stay close to your normal food intake.    When eating out, select foods that are high in vegetables and proteins.  Have only one alcoholic drink or have a virgin version of it.  Avoid desserts or only eat a small portion.

Please remember that although this is a very fun time of the  year, actions have consequences.  If we eat like a pig we may end up looking like one too.

Have a very happy Thanksgiving,

Theresa Newell
